LHD Lawyers Acquires 120-Year-Old Firm, Taylor & Scott Lawyers
We are proud to announce that LHD Lawyers has acquired Sydney-based Taylor & Scott Lawyers, a practice with more than 120 years of history in New South Wales. The transaction completed on 2 March and took effect from 3 March.
This strategic move strengthens our workers’ compensation, personal injury and industrial law capability in the state, while ensuring full continuity of service for all existing and future clients.
Taylor & Scott Lawyers will continue to operate under its established name and brand. Clients will experience uninterrupted service, with all current and future legal matters proceeding with the same commitment and care.
A 120-Year Legacy Representing Working Australians
For more than a century, Taylor & Scott Lawyers has built a respected reputation representing injured workers and trade union members across NSW. The firm continues to act for members of the Construction, Forestry and Maritime Employees Union (CFMEU), the National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) and the Communication Workers Union (CWU).
Over its 120-year history, the firm has provided dedicated legal services to union members, ensuring access to experienced representation when workplace injury, accident, illness or employment disputes threaten their livelihood.
Personal injury law remains a critical legal service when a worker’s livelihood is placed at risk. It ensures access to compensation, medical support and financial protection during periods of vulnerability.
In addition to personal injury, Taylor & Scott Lawyers practises in:
- Industrial and employment law
- Wills and estates
- Property and conveyancing
- Criminal law
- Immigration
By bringing these services into our group, we are enabling clients to access coordinated legal advice across matters that often intersect with workplace injury and employment issues.
Expanding Specialist Capability in NSW
This acquisition broadens our service offering in NSW and enhances our ability to manage complex, interconnected legal matters affecting injured workers and their families.
By integrating Taylor & Scott Lawyers’ industrial and employment expertise with our national personal injury platform, we are positioned to deliver expanded legal support across workplace disputes, compensation claims and associated personal legal matters.
As part of our investment strategy, we are committing significant investment in the Taylor & Scott Lawyers business. This includes investment in people, advanced legal technology, operational infrastructure and enhanced client care systems.
Taylor & Scott Lawyers will continue to operate under its established name and branding, reinforcing its identity as a dedicated legal practice and ensuring union members and clients clearly recognise it as a firm of lawyers ready to assist whenever legal representation is required.
A Shared Commitment to Client-First Representation
Beyond strategic alignment, this acquisition reflects a strong cultural fit. Both firms share a long-standing commitment to representing working people, maintaining trusted client relationships and delivering meaningful results, not merely case outcomes, but meaningful support during critical periods in clients’ lives.
Our Managing Director John Abouchrouche and CEO James Bodel said the acquisition marks both a preservation of legacy and a forward-looking expansion:
Taylor & Scott Lawyers has a proud 120-year history and a respected reputation in workers’ compensation, personal injury, property and industrial law. Our intention is to invest heavily in the firm — in its people, its systems and its service capability — so that it can continue to serve union members and working Australians with even greater depth, responsiveness and technological support. We are not simply acquiring a respected practice; we are committing to its growth, expansion and long-term future.
Continuity for Clients and Staff
Taylor & Scott Lawyers will continue to operate under its existing brand, supported by our national systems and infrastructure.
Long-standing Managing Partner Ray McClenahan will retire following completion, while Partner Ivan Simic will remain with the firm, ensuring continuity for clients and ongoing union member representation. Approximately 20 staff will join our group, with no disruption to existing matters or day-to-day operations.
Clients can be assured that their current legal matters will proceed without interruption and that we remain fully committed to protecting and advancing their rights, now and into the future.
